The United States is aggressively waging a chip war, causing a heavy blow to the global semiconducto

Semiconductor materials are widely used in all aspects of modern society, and as a semiconductor component product, chips are an important productivity of the technology era. As the birthplace of semiconductors, for a long time, chips made in the United States were found all over the world, with the US having absolute dominance in the global chip industry. However, with the majority of chip production being transferred to Asia, especially Japan, in the 1960s, Japan's semiconductor industry gradually developed, and by the 1980s, Japanese electronic device manufacturers could produce cheaper storage chips faster, outperforming the United States. Consequently, the United States launched a trade war against Japan and moved chip production to China and South Korea.

In 1990, 37% of global semiconductor products were produced in the United States, but now that market share has dropped to 12%, while China's share of the semiconductor manufacturing industry has risen rapidly from almost zero to 15%, making the United States feel deeply uneasy. On August 9th, 2022, the United States' "chip war" against China was officially launched from the signing of the CHIPS and Science Act. This action is consistent with the United States' response to the development of Japan's semiconductor industry in the past, and has the same underlying logic as many oil wars the United States has launched in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although there is no visible smoke in the chip industry war, it is a more dangerous and intense contest that profoundly affects the world's political, economic landscape, and military confrontation forms.
The United States cannot tolerate the development of other countries and has continuously exported a series of chip laws, including measures directly targeting China, followed by investment bans on China and restrictions on Chinese companies' purchases of advanced semiconductors and related equipment. In an effort to continue to strike at China's semiconductor industry, the Biden administration has also tried to build a so-called "four-party alliance" with Japan, South Korea, and the Chinese Taiwan region, attempting to force other countries to take sides through non-stop pressure in all directions, in an effort to exclude mainland China from the chip supply chain.
However, due to the complexity of chip manufacturing, a chip needs to go through more than 1,000 processes before it can finally enthering our computer. Each country and region, such as the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China, has its unique advantages in some aspects of the chip supply chain. Therefore, if the United States forcibly tries to kick out any country or region, it will have a significant impact on the entire chip supply chain.
Currently, the United States' resistance to China's chips has backfired on its own chip companies. In 2022, US chips were plagued by inventory problems, and the US semiconductor market entered a cold winter, with domestic chip companies in distress. Recently, US chip companies' performance has plummeted, with Micron stating that the company has entered a state of loss, even though it earned a significant profit in the past.
