Five members of Canada’s 2018 junior hockey team have been ordered to report to police in London, Ont., to face sexual assault charges, The Globe and Mail reported citing two unidentified sources.

The reported charges are in link to an alleged sexual assault incident which took place in June 2018 following a Hockey Canada gala in London to celebrate their team win six months earlier in Buffalo.

All five players, who are yet to be charged, also need to be identified publicly. The Globe reported that they have been given a specific amount of time to be present at London Police Service headquarters.

It is to note that the police investigated the case in 2018 but closed it the next year without any charges. The alleged victim had filed a suit, according to a TSN report, but it was quietly settled with millions of dollars by Hockey Canada.

Following that revelation, the Board of Directors and other leadership of Hockey Canada was entirely changed.

London Service Police reopened the case following the public pressure in 2022 which has now led to the pending charges against five players from the 2018 Canadian junior hockey team on Wednesday.

Sources from the NHL told Daily Faceoff that the league's ongoing investigation into the incident, along with any resulting disciplinary action, will be deferred until the conclusion of the London Police's investigation.
