Following a report of ‘significant’ damage  Health Canada issued warning of fire risk from the batteries of Dyson vacuum sold on Amazon.

In a statement on Thursday, Health Canada mentioned that the products involved are FirstPower 4000mAh V6 Battery Replacement for Dyson V6 Series Vacuums and they were sold between Jnauary and April 2022.

Citing burn and fire hazard, Health Canada said, “Immediately stop using the product and dispose of it by contacting your municipality for instructions on how to safely transport and dispose of lithium-ion batteries.”

Health Canada has also issued a reminder about the proper disposal of batteries, emphasizing that they should not be thrown away with regular household trash due to their hazardous nature.

The manufacturer of the product, which has now been removed from Amazon.ca, stated that the battery was usable with various Dyson vacuum models, including SV04, DC58, DC59, DC61, DC62, DC72, DC74, and several others such as Absolute Animal Motorhead Slim and SV series from SV03 to SV09.

However, it's important to note that these battery packs are not produced or endorsed by Dyson, as pointed out in a warning by Health Canada.

Additionally, Dyson has advised against buying third-party replacement batteries for its products, citing safety concerns. Health Canada echoes this sentiment, urging consumers to be aware of the risks associated with purchasing consumer products online.

The company selling these batteries has sold 1,731 units in Canada. Up until November 24, 2023, there have been six reported incidents involving these batteries, including one instance where significant property damage was caused by a fire in Canada, according to Health Canada.
