A 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead after being struck by drivers in Vaughn while on the way to school Thursday morning, York Regional Police said.

In a statement, the investigators said that the incident took place around 7:24 a.m. in the area of Weston Road and Villa Royale Avenue.

The police said that the teen victim was hit by two vehicles on a busy highway. The involved vehicles were at the scene.

Officers initially said the boy sustained life-threatening injuries when they arrived at the scene. However, the boy was declared dead after he was transported to the hospital.

According to the investigators, the next of kin of the boy has been identified.

While the investigation is still on, York Regional Police invited the public which has not spoken to authorities to come forward.

In a post on X, Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca mourned the teen's death as a "devastating tragedy.” He said, "My heartfelt and deepest condolences to this young man's loved ones.”

Earlier this month, a person died in a fire at a rooming house in Leslieville.

The firefighters were reportedly called around 5:30 a.m. to a home on Coxwell Avenue, north of Dundas Street East. They were soon able to calm the blazes that originated in the second floor.

Toronto Paramedics Services said that a person was pulled by firefighters from the home without any sign of life and they were later pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s identity was not immediately known.
