Richmond Hill Local and Regional Councillor Joe Di Paola Presents Donation to Abuse Hurts, Receives

Richmond Hill Local and Regional Councillor Joe DiPaola presented a donation of $4,100.00 to Ms. Ellen Campbell, CEO and Founder of Abuse Hurts, accompanied by Ms. Charity DiPaola, Director of Abuse Hurts, at the Council Chambers, York Region Administrative Centre in Newmarket for his community support and goodwill.  The presentation ceremony reflected the spirit of generosity and unity as community collaboration to combat abuse.

Richmond Hill Local and Regional Councillor Joe Di Paola, known for his dedication to community services, demonstrated his unwavering commitment to helping people in need.  He appreciates Abuse Hurts’s forefront critical assistance provided to individuals and families affected by abuse, hoping that the donation of $4,100.00 through his fundraising could support Abuse Hurts, Non-Profit organization better to help its clients.   

Ms. Ellen Campbell, CEO and Founder of Abuse Hurts, expressed her sincere appreciation for Councillor Di Paola's kindness, and returned a gift of a hummingbird artwork, a symbol of the resilience and strength of survivors and the transformative power of hope. It serves as a reminder that, together, we can create a future free from abuse. By working together, we can create a brighter and more hopeful future for everyone.

Councillor Joe DiPaola has been representing Richmond Hill residents for four terms on Richmond Hill City Council. Currently as Regional Councillor, Chair of Budget Committee of the Whole, Chair of the York Region’s Planning and Economic Development, Chair of Official Plan Update Committee and Vice Chair of Affordable Housing Strategy Implementation Committee.
 
He has also served previously as the Ward 6 Councillor.  During 2018-2022, he also served as the Deputy Mayor of City of Richmond Hill, and was appointed as Acting Mayor from 2021-2022. Councillor Joe Di Paola has a long history of community services and is committed to making Richmond Hill a better place for all its residents.

Abuse Hurts is a charitable organization that has served Canadians since 1993. The Centre’s mandate is to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of abuse through education and public awareness. Abuse Hurts operates solely on private donations with no sustaining funds from any government body.
Abuse Hurts aims to raise awareness about the true cost of neglect and abuse and currently supports dozens of organizations including children’s services, victim’s services, shelters, and other agencies that deal with tens of thousands of children, women, and men whose lives have been affected by abuse. With help from the community and corporate partners, the Centre also provides access to support, healing and individual empowerment for adult survivors, their families and caregivers.
 
About Ellen Campbell, CEO and Founder
As CEO and Founder for the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness, the name Ellen Campbell has become synonymous with abuse prevention and recovery in Canada. In recognition of her work and the influence achieved by CCAA, in December 2006, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada appointed Ms. Campbell to The Minister’s Advisory Committee on Judicial Appointments for Ontario, a position that she continued to hold until 2010. In addition to many awards and acknowledgements Ellen received the Order of Ontario in 2014 for her work with survivors of abuse.
